Burned Below
The dust settles
Leaves have left the trees
People in the streets
Still living their busy lives
Police screaming
GET ON THE GROUND
Everyone willingly ignoring each other
While the world dims down
Bombs create smoke
On the other side of the street
Heavy grey commutes
Thick coughs
No homes
People have no where to go
The bees come less each springtime
The birds sing hollow songs
I witness these things
My own wings
Dampened by soot
Talons chipped
Ripples of chemical hues
I see it all below me
Wandering souls
Wondering where to go
Cities and towns
All burned to the ground
People are still clueless
Not sure what the next move is
I’ve stayed up in the trees
My apocalyptic sanctuary
Wings still dampened with soot
My eagle fierce heart
Feels hollow
Broken
Unfilled
